Daniel Craig’s original, iconic take on 007

TV Times - - Film Guide -

With Spectre looking as if it may be the last time we see Daniel Craig play James Bond, it’s worth looking at where it all started for him. In his first foray, Craig (who put on 20lb of muscle for the role) has a meaner take on the iconic secret agent. Rebooting the series, this is a stunning adaptation of Ian Fleming’s debut 007 novel in which Bond takes on a terrorist banker (Mads Mikkelsen) in a deadly card game. Judi Dench is excellent once again as M, and Eva Green plays the haunted Bond girl, Vesper Lynd. Until he had read the script, Craig wasn’t interested in the part because he felt the series had turned stale and formulaic, but he became the first actor playing Bond to earn a BAFTA nomination.
