He’s an innocent victim when Robert’s dodgy mate, Rich goes bonkers with a bottle in the Bistro …
Coronation Street isn’t all lovely hotpots and cheeky pints of Newton and Ridley’s right now, is it?
On top of Bethany’s grooming ordeal and old Kenneth’s plunge down the stairs, now we’ve got Chesney getting stabbed in the Bistro. Still, at least he’ll get a change of scenery while he’s in hospital. He’s been stuck behind that kebab counter so long, we were wondering if his feet had got glued to the floor by chilli sauce.
The baddie responsible is Robert Preston’s old acquaintance, Rich. He’s determined to make Robert launder his dirty drugs money and, when Robert refuses, he goes tonto and picks up a broken bottle. Ches, who has just reunited with Sinead, arrives at the restaurant to make peace with Daniel, but when he unintentionally makes Rich jump, he finds himself slashed.
‘Chesney wants to have a word with Daniel – it’s nothing confrontational; it’s just to tell him there are no hard feelings,’ explains star Sam Aston. ‘But as he walks in through the door of the Bistro with his good intentions, it’s a case of wrong place, wrong time, and he finds himself caught in the crossfire.’
As Rich does a runner, Daniel comes to Chesney’s aid and puts pressure on his stab wound while trying to keep him conscious. He’s quite the hero – although Sinead doesn’t think that when she arrives on the scene. Seeing Ches half-dead and her ex covered in blood, she thinks demonic Dan has been up to his old tricks again.
An ambulance soon arrives and, as Chesney’s whisked to hospital, a shaken Robert tells Michelle about Rich’s demand, then opens up about his colourful life, pre-weatherfield. Let’s just say he’s done a lot worse than burn a few steaks. Michelle’s shocked but supportive, and hugs her fella as he fights back the tears.
Wanting Rich out of his life, Robert later calls him up, saying he’s prepared to do one last deal. Luring him to a car park, he then tells Rich that he wants to buy some cocaine off him. But is Robert intending to snort it – or does he have another plan up his sleeve?
