After their recent solo outings, Marvel comic-book heroes Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America finally get to do cool things as a team. Pulled together to fend off the threat posed by Thor’s evil adopted brother

Loki (Tom Hiddleston), these supersized egos spend almost as much time fighting each other as they do fighting their foe. Written and directed by Buffy and Angel creator Joss Whedon (who is clearly a fanboy), the Cgiboosted action never gets too ridiculous, and there are plenty of witty zingers in the script.

Best of all is Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, who gets the film’s self-aware tone spot on, delivering Whedon’s wisecracks with sardonic charm. Dir: Joss Whedon 2012, 12, 135min
