Newcomer Bernadette is hiding something…
Karen Taylor hasn’t exactly had a quiet time of it since she pitched up in Walford with her motley crew. First, Keegan gave her a monumental-sized headache, after lying that he’d slept with Louise, and now Bernadette’s acting a bit shifty..
The week starts off with Karen on a mission to get a job. She begins her search at The Minute Mart, before moving on to The Vic. She’d be lucky. Would Fi Browning hire someone who smokes like a chimney and wears joggers? There’s more chance of Dot hang gliding.
‘People might think Karen is lazy and doesn’t do anything, but when you dig deep, she’s really looking after her kids,’ says Lorraine Stanley, who plays the single mum. ‘The Taylors are triers, and want to do better for themselves.’
Karen then tries her luck at Beales restaurant. Deflated after Ian says ‘no’, she gives Jane a hand in the Square – and sees Bernadette returning from school early. The teen claims she’s poorly, but Karen doesn’t believe her.
The suspicious mum’s luck changes when she talks Ian into giving her a job as a cleaner. Her first day at work doesn’t get off to a great start, though, when she gets defensive as Ian tries to show her the ropes. But Karen’s got more on her mind than trying to please Squeale. As she mulls over Bernadette’s situation, she suddenly comes to a worrying realisation. Just what has the youngster done?
On the defensive: Karen loses it with Ian
