documentary / 9.00pm / BBC2

can you imagine a world without TV? Tonight, Melvyn Bragg and some influential telly pals debate the impact that it’s had on our lives. Ever since the Queen’s Coronation in 1953, television has been bringing us together to inform, challenge, entertain and infuriate. Great art, culture and sport are no longer just for the rich and privileged, politicians can no longer hide without being held to account and social norms are being challenged and questioned. But has it gone too far? Are we a nation losing our inhibitions, obsessed with reality TV? And what does the future hold? Can television sustain its success?
