Craig really hits his stride in a super adventure that’s very hard to fault. It gets off to a scorching start with a heart-pounding chase through Istanbul – which ends with Judi Dench’s M ordering Bond to be shot. But she’s the one in the firing line, as a hard disk containing the identities of MI6 agents has got into the wrong hands and her new boss Ralph Fiennes is keen to see her retire. But can Bond save the day..? Craig and Dench strike excellent sparks off each other, Javier Bardem’s cyber-terrorist makes a great bad guy, Ben Whishaw entertains as Q and Naomie Harris also makes her role count. The action sequences are brilliantly directed by Sam Mendes, but this Bond movie really sets itself apart by also caring about its characters.
