The Secret Life of Pets

this vibrant piece of CGI animation, from the makers of Despicable Me and Minions, may not have a wildly original tale to tell but the sheer lunacy and sharp, witty script make this a very enjoyable experience. Self-obsessed terrier Max’s nose is put out of joint when his owners take in stray mongrel Duke, but then the two pooches get lost in New York and need rescuing by the other pets in their apartment block. The voice cast is top notch, including big hitters Steve Coogan, Louis CK, Albert Brooks and Ellie Kemper, with comedian Kevin Hart a particular highlight as a psychotic bunny. The humour may veer occasionally towards the cruder end of the spectrum, but it’s a comedy that a broad age range will find great fun.
