DOCUMENTARY / 9.00pm / BBC4
Professor fara Dabhoiwala raids the BBC archives to look at some of its best adventure documentaries of the past 50 years. In the 1960s, there were tales of pioneering captains to the New World, before the focus shifted in the 1970s to the natives of those lands. Next came the extreme adventurers, with Man of Everest (1983) charting Hillary’s expedition and Shackleton (2000) telling how epic failure became glorious success.
