BBC Proms
A celebration of two musical greats who would have turned 100 this year
music / 8.00pm / BBC4 With the Proms season now in full swing, tonight is bound to be one of the highlights of the season – a joyous celebration of the music of jazz icons, trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie and singer Ella Fitzgerald, who would have both celebrated their 100th birthday this year, had they been alive. Broadway musical and Hollywood moviescore legend John Mauceri conducts the BBC Concert Orchestra at London’s Royal Albert Hall. And, who better to pay tribute to Ella and Dizzy than acclaimed Grammy Award-winning singer Dianne Reeves, who is joined on stage by virtuoso trumpeter James Morrison to perform some of the music associated with these two musical greats.
