A cel­e­bra­tion of two mu­si­cal greats who would have turned 100 this year

mu­sic / 8.00pm / BBC4 With the Proms sea­son now in full swing, tonight is bound to be one of the high­lights of the sea­son – a joy­ous cel­e­bra­tion of the mu­sic of jazz icons, trum­peter Dizzy Gille­spie and singer Ella Fitzger­ald, who would have both cel­e­brated their 100th birth­day this year, had they been alive. Broad­way mu­si­cal and Hol­ly­wood movi­escore leg­end John Mauceri con­ducts the BBC Con­cert Orches­tra at Lon­don’s Royal Al­bert Hall. And, who bet­ter to pay trib­ute to Ella and Dizzy than ac­claimed Grammy Award-win­ning singer Dianne Reeves, who is joined on stage by vir­tu­oso trum­peter James Mor­ri­son to per­form some of the mu­sic as­so­ci­ated with these two mu­si­cal greats.
