Odd Man Out
film / 7.20pm / Talking Pictures
This gem from the Talking Pictures treasure trove of old British movies stars James Mason as an IRA man with a bullet in his side on the run from the British authorities on the streets of Belfast. Directed in 1947 by the brilliant Carol Reed, two years before The Third man, it has a similar semi-documentary feel, highly stylised blackand-white looks and, once it gets over its slow start, gives Mason one of the best roles of his career.
