The orig­i­nal 1948 film of Ter­ence rat­ti­gan’s suc­cess­ful stage play is an ex­cel­lent drama, boosted fur­ther by big hit­ters in the act­ing de­part­ment. Robert Donat is chief among them, as the bar­ris­ter de­fend­ing a boy ex­pelled from a naval academy for theft, a story based on an ac­tual case, with Donat end­ing up tak­ing the case to Par­lia­ment in his bid to do right by the boy.
