We’ve really missed seeing suranne Jones on our screens, since she became a first-time mum to a little boy last year. thankfully, she’ll soon be back with three exciting and very different new dramas…

Doctor Foster

this september, suranne returns to her Bafta-winning role as vengeful Gp Gemma Foster in the second series of writer Mike Bartlett’s BBC1 psychological thriller. Gemma and cheating ex simon (Bertie carvel) face fresh challenges as they try to parent teenage son tom (tom taylor). ‘It’s definitely as good as the first series and I’m hoping it’ll be better,’ reveals Suranne. ‘It’s about what happens to people who still hate each other, but have a child to look after. It’s brave, different and pushes the boundaries of family drama.’

save Me

vengeance is also on the menu in suranne’s new sky atlantic crime thriller Save Me, starring and written by The Walking Dead’s lennie James (left) as troubled nelly. when he is accused of a terrible crime, nelly’s bid to track down the real perpetrator reunites him with his former partner, claire, played by suranne. Save Me is due on our screens next year. ‘I’m so thrilled to be part of Lennie’s unique creation. His writing is so compelling, his portrayal of the world so distinctive. It is completely different to anything I’ve done before,’ says Suranne.

suranne makes a rare venture into period drama in this BBC1 series, which centres on real-life 19thcentury lesbian anne lister, who tries to save her ancestral Yorkshire home by marrying a wealthy woman. the eight-part drama, which will start filming next year, is written and directed by Happy Valley writer sally wainwright (above left), who worked with suranne on Dead Clever, Unforgiven and Scott & Bailey. ‘Sally’s scripts are fresh, daring and bizarre in a wonderful, fun, modern, complex and challenging way,’ says Suranne. ‘Now, once again, I get to speak the words of an almighty talent on a project I know she holds close to her heart.’
