The himalayas, asia

episode two

TV Times - - Factual -

The Himalayas is full of extremes, and we look at how animals and people adapt to them,’ says Steve.

‘We follow a young male yunnan snub-nosed monkey whose mum abandoned him when he was a newborn. They need companionship to survive, so he tries to join a group of toughlooking males, who resemble Fagin’s gang from the musical Oliver!.

‘We also uncovered a lovely story about how locals live alongside snow leopards. They are an economic peril because they eat livestock, but these people still cherish them.

‘Some incredible natives live here, too, including Nepalese who run the mount Everest marathon, the highest race in the world. Running champion mira Rai is an extraordinary role model, because she has triumphed over a very tough upbringing. Physically, she is amazing, as her bloodstream and lungs have adapted to living there.’
