‘We couldn’t Protect her’
Princes William and Harry pay tribute to their mother in a new BBC1 documentary
Two decades after they lost their mother, Princes William and Harry share their grief in a BBC1 documentary, Diana, 7 Days, on Sunday at 7.30pm.
‘We owe it to her,’ says Prince William. ‘We feel that we let her down when we were younger. We couldn’t protect her. We owe it to her to stand up for her, to do our duty as sons in protecting her.’
the documentary, which also features interviews with Earl Spencer and then Prime Minister tony Blair, recalls the days that followed Princess Diana’s shocking death, leading up to her funeral.
Prince Harry is still touched by the public response to her passing.
‘When she died there was such an outpouring of love. It ’s amazing that our mother had such a huge effect on so many people,’ he says.
‘twenty years on seems like a good time to remind people of the difference that she made to the Royal family and to the world.'
