BABY First

Cancer-stricken Sinead goes to desperate lengths to protect her unborn child

TV Times - - Cover Story -

Sinead’s worst fears come true this week when doctors confirm she has cervical cancer. It would be a devastating diagnosis for any woman to hear, but in Sinead’s case, it’s especially heartbreaking. She’s three months’ pregnant with Daniel’s child and fears that if she has chemotherapy, her unborn baby may be harmed. Of course, without chemo, her own chances of survival are slim.

So, who does she put first?

As far as the knicker stitcher is concerned, it has to be the baby.

‘When the doctor said to Sinead, “You’ve got a lump,” the first thing she asked was, “Is the baby okay?”’ says Katie Mcglynn, who plays her. ‘She has a maternal instinct straight away. She’s not thinking about herself, and this will play out throughout the storyline.’

Daniel is still in the dark about Sinead’s ill health. When he inevitably finds out the truth, he urges the blonde to have a form of mild chemotherapy. But Sinead can’t stomach the thought of putting their baby at risk, and lies about attending an appointment; instead devoting her energy to exploring alternative therapies. Is she about to make the ultimate sacrifice for her child?
