Zukunftsmusik INTERNATIONAL DEEJAY GIGOLO 8/10 bavarian playboy’s extravagant fifth outing A tastemaker DJ since the mid-’80s who fancies himself as a cultural chameleon in the vein of Warhol and Bowie, Helmut “Hell” Geier’s long-players tend to be grandiose affairs rooted in tangerine Dream kosmische and raw Chicago house. Zukunftsmusik, perhaps his most indulgent yet, is no exception and finds the 54-year-old sinking deep into plush psychedelia (the tropical trilogy of “High Priests of Hell”, “Guede” and “2 Die 2 Sleep”), and Kraftwerkian deviance (“Wir reiten Durch Die Nacht”, “Car, Car, Car”), though he’s still capable of busting moves with the deliciously agricultural jack track “I Want U”. In all, a rich, rewarding listen.
