Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel are associated in many respects – there’s a famous duet on So called “Don’t Give Up”. In a sense, what’s even more interesting about Gabriel is here’s an artist who made his name in the ’70s, but who reinvented himself in the ’80s – never underestimate how hard it is to confront the expectations of your fanbase. And some people do that on an album-by album basis – you think of people like Bowie, for example. So is Gabriel’s big crossover record, but he did it without losing any of his uniqueness.
