The over­dub­bing and the use of Mel­lotron sug­gest that Till­man’s love of The Bea­tles’ “White Al­bum” isn’t far be­low the sur­face, but the fin­ished ar­ti­cle is closer to the pas­toral en­nui of Harrison’s 1970 solo epic. Harrison used his new-found free­dom to in­ves­ti­gate Amer­i­can roots mu­sic. Till­man is head­ing in the other di­rec­tion, bury­ing his roots in melodic en­nui.
