Kräuter Der Provinz 7/10
Heavy lids and collective consciousness: Saarlouis’ psychedelic dreamers
Now in their 15th year, German eightpiece Datashock have a pretty clearly prescribed modus operandi – long, slowly metamorphosing improvisations, leaning heavily on either drone or motorik rhythm. Kräuter Der Provinz opens as though it’s fallen off a classic krautrock album, the title, “Hullu Gullu, Wir Liefern Shizz”, a not-so-subtle hint as to its grounding in Neu!’s classic trancedout Dingerbeat. But things get far more mysterious soon after – and by the time you’re in deep with Kräuter
Der Provinz, bathing in the spiralling electronics and cosmic coincidences of cuts like “Halb-Halb, Wie Ein Guter Kloß”, well, time’s an irrelevance.
