Better known for ’80s soundtrack belters like Dirty Dancing’s “(I’ve Had) the time Of My Life” than her masterful interpretations of friend Leonard Cohen’s work on 1987’s Famous Blue Raincoat, Warnes’ first album in 17 years revisits her neglected acoustic roots. “I See Your Face Before Me” provides jazzy easy listening as gentle as Blossom Dearie’s peerless take on “It Amazes Me”, and the Californian exercises equally remarkable restraint on the delicate, Joni Mitchell-flavoured “Once I Was Loved”. It’s her unlikely, tender cover of Pearl Jam’s “Just Breathe”, however, that best defines this enchanting collection.
