MUDHONEY

digital Garbage SUB POP 7/10 Grunge titans take on the world

Thirty years after laying down the grubby, fuzzy foundations for what would become grunge, Mudhoney are still noisily hammering away. The band have very much found their formula and stuck to it over the years, and album 10 proves no different. Mark Arm’s vocals and ink-black lyrics screech above the booming bass, obnoxious guitars and ever-pounding drums. Lyrically, the album looks at the chaos of current times, exploring mass shootings on the riff-heavy “Please Mr Gunman” and the omnipotence of social media on the melodic and slide-guitar heavy “Kill Yourself Live”. It’s business as usual, but a welcome return nonetheless.
