McDonnell ‘would not live at 11 Downing St’

Uxbridge Gazette - - NEWS -

JOHN McDonnell has said he will continue to live in Hayes if he becomes Chancellor of the Exchequer.

The Hayes & Harlington MP, who became shadow chancellor when Jeremy Corbyn won the Labour leadership in September, is likely to shun 11 Downing Street if elected into government at the 2020 general election.

Speaking to a Vice.com news website, he admitted his first three months had been a struggle, with the media, Tory traps and building his staff from the ground up presenting challenges.

But he added: “Every day I’m stepping forward. I wouldn’t live at Number 11 though.

“I’d stay in Hayes I should think. I’m almost certain.”
