Eastcote beat leaders
AN EXTRAORDINARY last match before the winter break saw Eastcote Hockey Club’s men topple MBBO One league leaders Maidenhead in their own backyard on Saturday, yet still miss out on replacing them at the summit.
Joe Snell’s second-half double clinched a 3-1 win for the Boars, but they too were overhauled in the standings by Oxford Hawks, who thrashed PHC Chiswick 10-0 to snatch top spot on goal difference ahead of Lee Pettifer’s side.
Gabriel Emery fired Eastcote into an early lead only for Maidenhead to level before the break.
Snell though, struck soon after the interval to restore the visitors’ advantage before sealing the points with his second shortly afterwards.
Eastcote will resume after the Christmas break with a friendly against Wapping on January 7.
Meanwhile, a calamitous 10 minutes shortly after half-time saw the ladies crash to defeat at Wycombe in their last game before Christmas.
The visitors kept it goalless at the interval but any hopes of points disappeared after they shipped four goals in quick succession after the restart to go 4-0 down.
There was better news though, on Sunday for the ladies’ masters team, who beat Reading 4-1 thanks to a Janet Morris hattrick and a Lenny Conetta goal.
