Plea to report roaming horses

Uxbridge Gazette - - OPINION -

I WOULD like to bring to attention an incident that occured to me and a friend on Sunday December 4 this year.

We were walking from West Drayton to Harmondsworth Village on the public footpath when we saw in front of us six horses on the footpath. They were standing still and looking at horses in the field. Making no sound, we decided to take a wide berth around them. Just as we passed them and for no reason, one of the horses suddenly galloped towards me and head butted me at full speed, sending me crashing to the ground.

Luckily he did not kick me or stamp on me.

I mananged to get up and my friend and I made our way to the village, where an ambulance was called, together with the police, and I was taken to hospital.

I have a suspected fractured rib, a fractured thumb and lots of bruises.

My concern is that walking this footpath through the summer and autumn we saw many families with children and dogs and their older owners, and if this had happened to a child the outcome could have been tragic.

If people see these unsupervised neglected horses roaming on Harmondsworth Moor, please report this immediately to the police or RSPCA so that this does not happen again.
