COUNCIL ‘IGNORE COMPLAINTS’ ABOUT BIN MEN
RESIDENTS SAY RUBBISH IS BEING LEFT STREWN ACROSS THE STREET BUT COUNCIL IS IGNORING COMPLAINTS
RESIDENTS in Hillingdon are fed up with bin men collecting their weekly rubbish, but leaving more mess than when they arrived.
One Ruislip resident says neighbours are forced to take it in turns to clean up the street after waste has been collected.
Lottie Jones, of Almond Close, said: “It happens every week. I think they have a competition each week to see how much mess they can make, it’s so annoying!
“Generally I think we have a good service from Hillingdon Council , with good recycling and weekly collections, but the bin men let the service down.”
A Ruislip Gardens resident, who asked to remain anonymous, spotted a waste collection employee throw rubbish on to their drive, which didn’t even belong to him, on his home’s CCTV camera.
The CCTV clip showed bin men bringing the street’s rubbish and recycling into one pile, outside the resident’s home. One bin man then realises it is too heavy to lift and lets it go – in the process tearing the bag, before it is left behind and dumped on the resident’s property.
He said: “My reaction was simply that it shouldn’t have happened, I had to go and clean it up myself.
“I’d just like to raise awareness, for council staff not to do this again.
“When I inspected the leftover box, it had a plastic bag filled with concrete, cement, and tile crumbs, possibly somebody’s clean-up after a tiling job.”
The resident, who has complained to Hillingdon Council, accepts that the contents of the bag did not meet the criteria for recycling, but believes it should not have been left on his property, and instead placed back where it came from.
He added: “Hillingdon Council has logged this as an operational incident and promised to investigate. But the fact is that they’ve not even bothered to download the video in more than seven days since I emailed it to them.
“This is very poor on the part of the council.”
But the council say it is “proud” of its waste service, which continues to offer weekly household waste and recycling collection, free weekly garden waste collection, and free door step textile collections. A spokesperson said: “We always endeavour to put residents first and we encourage anyone who has issues with a collection to let us know. All incidents are investigated by our dedicated waste and recycling team who are also looking into the complaint reported in Ruislip.”
