Vanquish S Volante launched
HOT ON THE HEELS of the sensational Vanquish S (as featured in our cover story, starting on page 52), Aston Martin has released images of the Volante version, for which orders are now being taken.
More expensive than the coupé at £211,950 (compared with £199,950), the Vanquish S Volante therefore becomes the most expensive series-production car currently sold by Aston. For that you get the same, brilliant, 5.9-litre V12 engine, incorporating revised inlet manifolds for better breathing and helping lift the output to a stupendous 595bhp at 7000rpm with 465lb ft of torque at 5500rpm, mated to the latest eight-speed Touchtronic III transmission.
No performance claims have yet been made, but the Volante is sure to be within a whisker of the coupé’s 0-62mph in 3.5sec and 201mph top speed (though possibly not with the top down).
Both Vanquish S models feature carbonfibre body panels with eyecatching aerodynamic additions, including a dramatic front splitter and downforceenhancing rear diffuser, also crafted in carbonfibre. Under the skin, the S benefits from a number of chassis upgrades, with damper internals, spring rates and anti-roll bar bushes all retuned to give the car a greater feeling of control. As we’ve discovered, the changes have given the production flagship Aston a real edge.
Inside, there’s 2+2 seating (though the rear seats are strictly for youngsters), a Bang & Olufsen hi-fi and the AMI III infotainment system with revamped sat-nav as standard, plus the option of the very striking ‘Filograph’ quilt trim and ‘Chopped Carbon Fibre’ facia.
