HE WANTED to show off the beauty of a Welsh market town and its surrounding area – and part-time photographer Glenn GamesonBurrows has certainly done that. What started off as a hobby, after his wife Angharad bought him a camera more than three years ago, has now turned into a new venture for Glenn, including photographing Abergavenny and the landscape around the Monmouthshire town.

The images, shown here, capture both the majestic landscape around the town and charming interactions in Abergavenny itself.

The snaps are the product of three years’ work in a bid to show how beautiful Abergavenny is – with his six-year-old daughter Ffion also accompanying him on photography walks, too.

On how the gift of a camera from his wife has given him a new passion, Glenn, who specialises in wedding, portrait and landscape photography, and enjoys documentary photography too, said: “If she didn’t give it to me, I wouldn’t be doing it now.

“Within a couple of days, I was going up the mountains taking photos.

“I’ve spent just over three years taking images of Abergavenny and some surrounding areas and have recently, over the last eight months or so, started photographing Abergavenny town also.”

Glenn – who works at Nevill Hall Hospital – lived in Abergavenny for nine years before recently settling in Great Oak, a few miles away. Originally from Blackwood, he said: “I fell in love with the area. When I took up photography three and a half years ago I decided to explore Abergavenny, its landscape and meet the people of Aber.

“My aim was to obviously get better at photography but also to show off Abergavenny’s beauty. I’ve never had any problems or issues photographing people here and am lucky to have met so many great people and fellow photographers.

“The reaction to my images has been very positive and it helps that Facebook pages such as ‘Love Abergavenny’ share my work, which in turn promotes my photography and the town.”

Glenn said he aims to publish a photo book of the landscape and streets of Abergavenny in the future – which will hopefully include some of daughter Ffion’s photographs too. He will continue to document the town and its events until then.
