IRAQI mil­i­tary forces have taken 70% of the Is­lamic State-held town of Tal Afar, the coun­try’s for­eign min­is­ter said.

Ibrahim al-Jaa­fari made the an­nounce­ment with his French coun­ter­part yes­ter­day, a day af­ter Iraqi mil­i­tary of­fi­cials said forces had fought their way into the cen­tre of the town with help from the US-led coali­tion.

Tal Afar, about 93 miles from Syria’s bor­der, is among the last IS-held towns in Iraq.
