MALPAS kept their place at the top of Division One in the Thomas Carroll South East Wales Cricket League heading into the final weekend of the season with a four-wicket win over Pontypridd.
Relegation-threatened Pontypridd were put in to bat and saw Phil Bishop claim a half-century (50). They were eventually bowled out on 119, with Lewis Morgan taking 4-32.
But Malpas went on the secure victory on 121-6, with Morgan (30) and Michael Martin (29) leading the way.
The victory means Malpas hold the advantage in the race for the title as they prepare to visit Chepstow on the final day but Newbridge, who travel to Pentyrch next weekend, kept pace with the leaders with an eight-wicket win over Chepstow Town.
Skipper Jason Dobbie whacked 31 as Chepstow chose to bat after winning the toss. Mitchell Harris added 28 as they reached 98 before they were bowled out.
Tom Watkins did most of the damage with a five-wicket haul but James Morgan helped as he took 3-10.
Morgan then hit 48 in reply for Newbridge while Ryan Watkins was on hand to hit 27 as they knocked off the runs, losing just two wickets in the process.
