SOUTH WALES ASSOCIATION
LLANELLI sealed the South Wales Cricket Association Division One title in style with a huge nine-wicket victory over Gorseinon at Stradey Park.
The leaders held an 18-point advantage at the start of the day but shrugged off any complacency doubts with a determined and professional performance.
Gorseinon batted first and built up a strong lead with Chris Morgan helping them onto 142 with 60. But Dan Roberts took 4-21 as they were bowled out. And talisman Marcus Leaf was once again in inspired form as his unbeaten 70 guided Llanelli to victory. Craig Howells added an unbeaten 36 as they knocked off the runs to seal the win, and the title, on 144-1.
Nearest challengers Dafen Welfare beat Briton Ferry Steel by 97 runs as they hoped for a Llanelli defeat, but will have to settle for a runners-up spot. David Williams hit 83 for Dafen as they finished the first innings on 225-8. Luke O’Connor whacked 46 in reply for Briton Ferry, who were dismissed on 128 with Jonathan Randall taking four wickets. The defeat confirmed Briton Ferry’s relegation.
