Wales On Sunday - - WELSH FOOTBALL ROUND-UP -

NEWPORT County manager Mike Flynn hailed a superb team performance as his side fought back from a goal down to overwhelm Chesterfield thanks to a hat-trick from the “unplayable” Frank Nouble.

The visitors looked like they might be about to ruin County’s homecoming to Rodney Parade as they took a first-half lead through Chris O’Grady.

But Nouble netted three times in 13 second-half minutes to turn the match on its head and new signing Padraig Amond helped himself to a debut goal to cap a perfect day for Flynn’s men.

“I’d have taken 4-1 all day,” said the manager.

“They’re a very good team and they cut us open at times and caused us problems.

“But we matched them up and took the game to them and the players were outstanding.

“At times Frank is unplayable. He scored a hat-trick and he could have had another hat-trick. He’s got to realise he is that big a player for us.

“But it wasn’t just him. The whole team was superb.

“It was great to see Podge get his first goal as well – that’s what he does. I’m really happy.”

Nouble’s first on 55 minutes was a 25-yard rocket into the top corner and he added two headers on 66 and 68 minutes to complete his hat-trick.

Amond, who had hit the post in the first half, then slotted in from inside the area with eight minutes remaining to wrap up the scoring.

The win lifts Newport to second in the League Two table and was the perfect way to mark their return home to Rodney Parade, which was delayed as a new £750,000 Desso pitch was laid by the Welsh Rugby Union.

Flynn is not getting carried away but he is pleased with his team’s unbeaten start to the league campaign.

“There’s things to work on but I’m really happy with the way we turned it around and rose to the challenge from Chesterfield,” he said.

“I want the fans to go home happy and I’ll go home happy as well.”

The only down side was a bad injury to Chesterfield defender Bradley Barry in the first half.

“Their injury has probably taken a little bit of the shine off Flynn.

“It looked like he could have broken his leg and I don’t like seeing that so I wish him a speedy recovery and I hope it’s not a bad break.” it,” added
