Shoppers on scent of bargain fragrance
PRIMARK shoppers have long been known for their ability to sniff out a bargain.
And those keen noses will come in very handy right now as the retailer has launched a new series of six unisex fragrances, starting at £3, which are incredibly similar to the upmarket perfumer Jo Malone’s signature scents.
And their smell is made even sweeter by the fact that, while you’ll have to fork out £44 for a 30ml Malone original, a 20ml Primark bottle will set you back almost 15 times less.
Fans of the Malone brand – which was bought up by Estee Lauder in 2016 – have been going mad for the new range, which includes Rose Oud, Jasmine & Honey, Vanilla Absolute, Amber Noir, Pomegranate & Black Tea, and Mandarin & Basil.
The last two, in particular, are proving most popular due to the fact that people think they’re dead ringers for Malone’s classic Pomegranate Noir and Lime Basil & Mandarin favourites.
When we called in to the Cardiff store yesterday morning, the product was flying off the shelves.
Many people also took to Twitter to share their excitement at the news.
And Primark – which also sells the smells in the form of room sprays and reed diffusers – isn’t alone in cashing in with its high end dupes. Superdrug has just announced that it’s also doing a cut-price perfume that’s sure to draw Jo Malone comparisons.
Priced at just £5, The Bloom Collection will feature a discount take on the popular Lime Basil & Mandarin, as well as a doppelganger of Malone’s other classic, Wild Fig & Cassis.
Dubbed “more Bond Street than High Street”, Superdrug says its plan is to “offer affordable fragrances whose great looks, and beautiful scents belie their small price tags”.
However, shoppers will have to wait a little longer to check them out as they don’t hit the shelves until October.
