STUNNING DEBUT STRIKE FOR WOODBURN, 17, KEEPS WALES’ WORLD CUP HOPES ALIVE
TEENAGE wonderkid Ben Woodburn made a sensational impact to keep Wales’ World Cup qualifying hopes alive last night.
The 17-year-old Liverpool starlet came off the bench to make his Wales debut and within five minutes had found the back of the net with his first touch.
Woodburn’s right-foot bullet in the 74th minute proved enough to give Wales victory over an Austrian side whose own qualification hopes now appear to be all but over.
But for Chris Coleman’s men, they will head into Tuesday’s game in Moldova having closed the gap on second-placed Republic of Ireland to two points.
Group D leaders Serbia defeated Moldova 3-0 yesterday but the Irish dropped crucial points in a 1-1 draw in Georgia to open the door for Wales.
