Vis­i­tors ex­plor­ing Viet­nam will soon en­counter the huge va­ri­ety of cul­tures, cuisines and cou­tures of the coun­try's tribal groups – there are 54 of­fi­cially recog­nised by the gov­ern­ment. Since he moved to Viet­nam seven years ago, French pho­tog­ra­pher Réhahn has been on a mis­sion to doc­u­ment them; he's up to num­ber 49. “I'm wait­ing for per­mis­sion be­cause some tribes are in sen­si­tive ar­eas,” he says. “It can take up to three years to get per­mis­sion.” The chal­lenge is al­ready reap­ing re­wards: pro­ceeds from the sale of Réhahn's prints and books sup­port a range of so­cial en­ter­prises in Viet­nam, in­clud­ing a mu­seum about the Co Tu eth­nic group.
