Adventure vein of Dr Jones
MAVERICK American adventurer and a beautiful British Museum curator are thrown together for some serious treasure hunting in this fun, family-friendly romp.
And you’d be completely forgiven for feeling transported back to an Indiana Jones movie as the pair run, jump, swing from trees and generally avoid constant, life-threatening danger.
Michael Landes plays Hooten (“just Hooten, no Mr”), with Elementary’s Ophelia Lovibond playing the fearless and posh history expert Lady Alex LindoParker.
Plus there are some welcome familiar faces who pop up, including Jessica Hynes, Joanna Scanlan and Jane Seymour.
Over the series, the swashbuckling pair search for hidden treasures, from Buddha’s missing scroll to the tomb of Alexander the Great, in countries from Russia to Ethiopia.
But tonight they meet for the first time. Alex has convinced the board of the British Museum to let her go to the Amazon in search of Victorian explorer Percy Fawcett’s lost camp.
“What could possibly go wrong?” she announces, the TV drama equivalent of lighting a fuse.
Three weeks later, Hooten is being dragged along the jungle floor by a galloping horse after upsetting a tribe through a diamond deal. And he runs into Alex, who was politely asking for directions before he came along.
The pair make a speedy escape, and in true Hollywood style, within 20 minutes, they’ve found Percy’s skeleton and a treasure map to a City of Gold. They should probably investigate together, but she thinks he’s rude and he thinks she asks too many questions.
But of course, with Hooten a rugged bad boy, and Alex the type of woman who looks stunning even when sweating through a vest and hanging off a cliff edge, we all know they’ll hit it off in the end.
