EMEMBER when Vic­to­ria Beck­ham was known for the taut, sec­ond-skin dresses she not only sent down the cat­walk but wore her­self al­most non-stop? Well, times have changed, and now the 43-year-old says ‘soft tai­lor­ing’ is her sig­na­ture look, for both her de­signer col­lec­tions and her per­sonal style.

That means out with the con­strict­ing frocks and in with slouchy trousers, silky shirts and man­nish blaz­ers. It’s a style that cat­walk brands do well, but you don’t have to pay lux­ury prices to get the VB look – and there are just three key pieces you need (plus a pair of box-fresh white train­ers).

First up, a pair of wide-leg trousers, cut straight rather than flared so they pool sat­is­fy­ingly around your an­kles. Add to that a shirt or blouse that’s fluid (not crisp) and top it off with a slightly over­sized blazer (pushed up sleeves are op­tional). Neu­trals lend them­selves well to tai­lored pieces but th­ese sleek shapes mean you can ex­per­i­ment with clash­ing block colours or choose tonal shades of camel, cream or red from head to toe.
