Pupil Zara dedicates 100 hours to charity
WELL done Zara! A Year 11 student from The Avon Valley School and Performing Arts College has given 100 hours of her time to charity.
Zara Bacon, a member of the Rugby school’s Fortune House, recently received a certificate after completing 100 hours of voluntary work with Oxfam in Rugby over the past year.
After dedicating her time, and in recognition of her achievement, Zara received a certificate from vinspired, the UK’s leading volunteering charity for 14- to 25-year-olds.
Each time she worked at Oxfam’s shop in Regent Street Zara recorded her time on the vinspired website. Her log was then verified by the charity’s staff confirming her dedication and commitment.
In addition to receiving a certificate, Zara’s achievement and the hours logged will also go towards the completion of her Duke of Edinburgh Award, which she has almost finished.
Head teacher Alison Davies said: “It is wonderful to see a student committing their time outside of school for the benefit of others.
“What’s even more impressive is that Zara has used her own initiative to do this.
“Zara is a hardworking student who has learnt a whole range of new skills through volunteering her time, this will no doubt serve her well in the future.
“One hundred hours is huge amount of time and I hope Zara is very proud of her achievement.”
