Travelodge looking to open new hotel in Coventry

Warwickshire Telegraph - - NEWS - By ELIS SANDFORD

A POPULAR UK hotel chain has announced plans to open 10 new locations across the nation - with sites being searched for in Coventry.

Travelodge has announced that as part of a £100million expansion programme, it is looking to open new hotels near to popular conference and event centres across the nation.

And in Coventry, the budget hotel chain has decided that the Ricoh Arena would be the perfect destination.

It has been confirmed they are actively searching for a site near to the stadium, which plays host to conferences, exhibitions and concerts, along with Coventry City, and Wasps netball and rugby.

It has revealed the Coventry expansion would come as part of an approximate investment of £8million.

Some 30 jobs could be created in Coventry as a result of this.

Currently Travelodge has one hotel in Coventry, located in Binley, with other nearby hotels in Nuneaton, Leamington and at Birmingham Airport .

Paul Harvey, Travelodge’s managing director for property, said: “Britain’s events sector is growing from strength to strength, however there is a shortage of good quality and low cost accommodation close to major event venues such as the Ricoh Arena.

“Therefore we have identified Coventry as one of ten key UK conference and event destinations where we would like to open a second hotel in the city.

“This expansion collectively represents an investment of £100million for third party investors and a job creation of 300 jobs.

“Our Coventry Binley Travelodge is literally booked out as soon as event dates are released and value seeking attendees will travel as far as Rugby, Leamington Spa, Nuneaton and Birmingham to sleep while attending a conference or event in Coventry.”

The announcement was made as the company opened its 567th hotel in Telford, located near to the Telford International Centre.
