Bid to secure High Court date over traveller camp ban

COUNCIL bosses hope to secure a

High Court date for an injunction to ban illegal traveller encampments from public land in Nuneaton and Bedworth next week.

It has been revealed that Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council hope to secure a slot to put their application before a High Court judge before next Friday (October 19).

Councillor Barry Longden, cabinet member responsible for illegal traveller incursions, explained: “Our application went to our barrister, who then sent it back for more information to make it a stronger case. This has been supplied and it is hoped that we can put the application before a High Court judge before the end of next week. This obviously depends on what judges are available but we hope to do this before next Friday.

“The application could then be contested by the barrister for the current encampment of travellers but we hope to get our application in next week.”

The news comes just a day after an online petition was launched by residents to try and force the council to speed-up its plans to protect public land.
