House of Fraser in town will stay open

MP CONFIRMS STORE’S FUTURE AFTER MONTHS OF UNCERTAINTY

Warwickshire Telegraph - - NEWS - By ELIS SANDFORD

THE future of Leamington Spa’s House of Fraser has been revealed – and it’s good news for Warwickshire shoppers.

After months of uncertainty, during which there were fears that the store on the Parade could close, Leamington’s MP has now revealed that the department store will in fact remain open.

Matt Western MP has released a statement, confirming the news, in what is definitely a positive for both consumers and staff at the store.

In June, the Leamington store was identified for closure, but the takeover by Sports Direct owner, businessman Mike Ashley, rescued many of the chain’s 59 outlets.

Ashley recently blamed “greedy landlords” for the closures of their other stores.

Matt Western, MP for Warwick and Leamington said: “Since the takeover of House of Fraser was announced I have worked tirelessly to secure the future of the Leamington store and I was obviously delighted when they told me it would remain open. “Over the past months I have met with House of Fraser management as well as the landlord in London to try and bring about a deal.

“It says a lot about the attraction of our area and Leamington in particular as a shopping destination.

“Finally, I’m sure the employees will be assured by the news and for whom the past few months have been particularly difficult.”

Elsewhere in the region, Wolverhampton’s House of Fraser, located in the iconic Beatties store, is set to be transformed into a Sports Direct.
