BT TV has become the first major UK TV service to offer Amazon Prime Video through its set-top boxes (mazon453). Prime members can now use their BT boxes to watch all Amazon’s TV shows and films, including The Grand Tour, Parks and Recreation and – from next year – 20 exclusive Premier League matches.

You’ll still have to stump up £79 per year for Prime, in addition to your BT subscription, but the built-in app means you no longer have to use additional hardware to watch Amazon’s content on your TV.

Rivals Virgin Media and Sky don’t offer Amazon Prime Video, but both have raised the bar with their Netflix offerings. Virgin now includes free Netflix for subscribers, while Sky will soon integrate Netflix content in its own Sky Q platform.

BT’S next move is set to be a Now TV app. Originally planned to roll out alongside Amazon, Now TV is now likely to arrive later this year.
