Burnie fight back for point

- St Andrews. .... 3 Whitburn ............ 3

Two late goals gave new Whitburn manager Andy Cunningham his first points since taking over at the Central Park side.

Cunningham took over from Colin Martin, who announced his departure with the Burnie sitting in the relegation zone but with more than enough talent to drag themselves out of danger.

Things looked good in the early stages against a United side sitting fourth- bottom as James McAteer headed home.

The visitors continued to put pressure on United but were unable to build on their lead.

They were made to pay for it when Ben Anthony fired home on the half- hour mark in one of few attacking moves from the hosts.

That sparked a change in fortunes as St Andrews dominated the second half and took the lead when Anthony jinked his way through the defence to fire home before he was able to complete his hat-trick four minutes later to put his team firmly in control.

However, the Burnie are made of stern stuff and Dewi Taylor pulled one back with 10 minutes to go before the visitors were awarded a late penalty that was slotted home by Martin Russell to ensure a valuable point.

They host Dalkeith this weekend.
