NHS needs long-term investment as well as a national care service

-

My name is Rhea and I’m proud to be standing as your Labour candidate for the Livingston constituency.

I moved to Livingston with my partner Scott to be closer to his family in Pumpherston and to be part of this community which is welcoming, family-focussed and full of activity.

In my day job I work as a trade union Branch Secretary, representing home carers and cleaners and caterers in schools. In my work I am reminded every day of the pressures that people face under this Tory Government.

With more cuts to our services, the people who keep our schools clean and care for our parents and grandparents are overworked, underpaid and undervalued. I grew up in Glasgow with my mum, a midwife, my dad, a travel agent, and younger sister. After graduating I worked for a charity in London that looked to get young people interested in social activism and gave them the skills and knowledge to make a positive difference in society.

I moved back home when I was 23 to become a full-time carer when my dad was given a terminal cancer diagnosis.

Too many people in my generation are struggling to get on. I am standing for a government that will invest long term in our NHS, build a National Care Service and protect us when we are at our most vulnerable.

Too many people are struggling to get on
