Derbies day for women

The first half of the Scottish Women’s Football League Division Two Central season closes on Sunday with a pair of West Lothian derbies.

Blackburn United have been at the top of the pile all season and will be looking to head into the mid-season break boasting a 100 per cent league record when they travel to neighbours Murieston United.

Murieston have taken steady steps forward in their first season since returning to senior women’s football but victory over Blackburn would be a massive upset.

Blackburn United are coming off their only defeat of the season as their interest in the Scottish Women’s Cup was brought to an end on Sunday as they suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Boroughmui­r Thistle.

Despite their impressive form this campaign, United were unable to cause a cup upset and their focus now turns to ensuring they lift the league title.

Meanwhile, Broxburn Athletic Colts host Linlithgow Rose with the home side hoping to bounce back after some disappoint­ing results over recent weeks. A victory for the Albyn Park side would see them jump to within two points of their opponents.

After this weekend’s action, the women’s season takes a break before returning on August 13 enticing contest between the division’s top two sides, Blackburn United and Airdrie at New Murrayfiel­d Park.
