Fire fighters tackle blaze in flat above pub

Emergency services were called to the scene of a fire in Bathgate yesterday morning (Wednesday) after a property at a pub went up in flames.

Fire engines, police cars and the ambulance service were called to the scene after the flat above The Railway Tavern on King Street was reported to be on fire.

One witness reported seeing people being treated with oxygen masks at the scene.

A spokespers­on for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said:“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 8.45am on Wednesday, September 27 to reports of a fire at commercial premises in Bathgate.

“Two fire appliances were immediatel­y mobilised to an incident at King Street and discovered a small fire in a flat above the premises.

“Firefighte­rs used a high powered water jet to extinguish the fire.

“One male casualty was transferre­d into the care of paramedics and given oxygen on scene.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”

A Police Scotland spokespers­on said:“It was the flat above the pub. We were called to it around 8.45am this morning.”
