Hitting the high notes

West Lothian Courier - - Memory Lane -

There was a one-two for Bathgate Band at the Scottish Junior Solo Championship held at the Mews Theatre in Livingston.

Angela Whelan (on the right of our picture) took the victory with Gillian Pritchard coming home in second place, just a point behind.

Scottish Amateur Brass Band Association president Jim Abbot described the result as tremendous and said he believed that it was the first time that two players from the same band finished first and second in the event.

The band’s secretary Jim Comerford said:“It’s a result which should encourage the whole band to even greater things in the near future.”

Our story and picture was featured in the December 4, 1987 edition of the Courier.
