Busy Masters confirms end of Edinburgh stint
With the Edinburgh Monarchs starting to put together their roster for the 2018 season, one rider who won’t be returning to the club is last season’s captain and number one Sam Masters. The Aussie ace has been a key member of the Armadale side since his arrival in 2014, as well as being named captain in each of the past two season.
However, due to his congested calendar, he has decided to drop the Championship next season.
A disappointed Masters said: “I was way too busy and need to drop a league to progress further with my career and unfortunately it has to be the Championship.
“It disappoints me a lot as my best years of racing have been here.
“Thank you for everything and I’m sure I’ll see you guys during the season.” Masters didn’t rule out a return to the club in the future, however, adding: “I hope to be back at Edinburgh again as there is no other club I would ride for in the Championship.”
It brings to an end a truly remarkable stint with the club that includes him being the only rider to win all available honours at Championship level. He has grabbed titles in the League Championship, Knockout Cup, Premier Trophy, Four, Pairs and Riders Championship with all but the latter sealed in Monarchs colours during a fantastic spell in West Lothian.
