New fears over kids’ ward

West Lothian Courier - - Courier View -

I write to you regarding the ongoing situation at St John’s Children’s Ward.

This week we will pass the 150th day since the ward closed the in-patients out of hours’ service. During this time, we have had yet another report by the Royal College of Paediatricians confirming that West Lothian needs a 24/7 service and yet rather than getting better, the situation has gotten worse. Last weekend, we saw children being turned away from even being assessed at the hospital, never mind being admitted. This is a disgraceful state of affairs. The SNP government have been in power for 10 years. The situation at St John’s has emerged during that time. Ministers have been repeatedly told by the public and the Royal College of Paediatricians to get a grip of the situation and sort things out – they have completely failed in their duty. This situation is not good enough - parents and children deserve much better than this shambolic situation.
