Fun in the woods

The staff and some of the chil­dren and par­ents at Bath­gate Early Years Cen­tre were lucky enough to take part in the For­est Schools pro­gramme re­cently.

This in­volved groups of chil­dren go­ing out once a week over a pe­riod of time to ex­plore the out­doors nearby with the sup­port of rangers from Beecraigs Coun­try Park.

The chil­dren were in­volved in many ac­tiv­i­ties in­clud­ing scav­enger hunts, den build­ing and ex­am­in­ing mini beasts and plants.

Miss Heenan one of the cen­tre’s Eco Schools co-or­di­na­tors said:“This pro­gramme has been a huge suc­cess and we can’t wait to take this for­ward next term in or­der for more of our chil­dren at Bath­gate Early Years to ben­e­fit from this fan­tas­tic ex­pe­ri­ence.

“Not only did the chil­dren in­volved show grow­ing con­fi­dence and re­silience each week but they also demon­strated an aware­ness of per­sonal safety and de­vel­oped their own ap­pre­ci­a­tion of na­ture and the out­doors in their lo­cal com­mu­nity of Bath­gate.”
