West Lothian Courier - - Courier View - Staff reporter

Whitburn Probus president Jim Stuart welcomed 37 members to their meeting, held in the Hilcroft Hotel.

The speaker for the evening was Dick Whyte who presented a talk entitled ‘ Tales from the Courtroom’.

The talk was a recollection of Dick’s time as a forensic specialist and, in particular, his experience and involvement in the Scottish court system.

Following a brief history of forensics, Dick then presented many humorous observations from the courtroom and his various encounters with famous solicitors such as Joe Beltrami, Donald Finlay, Nicki Fairbairn etc.

In addition with the help of cases involving statistics, mistakes, wrong identification etc Dick’s presentation led to a great question and answer session from the interested Probus members.

After a great talk, the vote of thanks was given by John Steel who thanked Dick for his humorous presentation and for helping to separate fact from fiction.
